What your network sees
With SoVPN on, your Wi-Fi or mobile carrier sees one encrypted connection to a SoVPN server. It can't tell which site or video is inside it. Carriers that slow down video during busy evening hours have a harder time picking it out of encrypted traffic.
Away from home, you can connect to a server in your own country and keep using the subscriptions you already pay for, as long as the service's terms allow it.
Getting smooth playback
The biggest factor is how far the server is from you. If a video stutters, try a closer city before you touch anything else.
WireGuard tends to be the fastest of the three protocols. Switch servers inside the same city first, and only change the protocol after that.
- Open Settings > Connection > Protocol and choose WireGuard
- Connect to the closest city, or the closest one in the country you need
- If buffering continues, try another server in that city, then another city
Smart TVs and set-top boxes
An Android TV app for SoVPN is being prepared. When it is ready, it will appear in the Downloads tab of the dashboard for accounts with an active VPN plan, and you log in on the TV with your account token.
For a TV or box that can't install apps, set up WireGuard on your router. Everything plugged into or connected to that router then goes through SoVPN.
What a VPN won't fix
Streaming companies choose where their catalog is available, and many of them detect and block VPN addresses. A service might work on one server today and stop next week. We don't promise that any service or title will be watchable.
Check the terms of each service you use. VPNs are also restricted by law in some countries, so read up on the local rules before you travel.
