From install to connected
- 1Buy a VPN plan with your SoVPN balance.
- 2Open the Downloads tab in your dashboard and find Android TV.
- 3Open the download in the TV's browser, or copy the file to a USB stick and open it in the TV's file manager.
- 4Allow installs from that source when the TV asks, then install SoVPN.
- 5Open SoVPN and enter your account token with the on-screen keyboard.
- 6Use the remote to pick a server and press Connect.
What the TV app shows
The home screen has your last location and a large connect button. The full list is grouped by region. On a remote with a microphone, you can say the country name to search.
Split tunneling works on the TV too. Keep the TV's built-in apps on your normal connection and route only the apps you choose through SoVPN.
Settings we suggest
Pick WireGuard. It is lighter on the TV's processor than OpenVPN, and on low-cost streaming sticks the difference is easy to notice.
Turn on connect at startup. After a power outage or a reboot, the TV reconnects to the VPN on its own.
Fixing common problems
Video buffering more with the VPN on? Switch to a city nearer to you, or nearer to the service you are watching. A wired Ethernet connection to the TV often helps more than any VPN setting.
Some TVs hide the setting for installing apps from outside the store. Look under Device Preferences, then Security and restrictions, or check the manual for your model.
