Why prices differ by country
Airlines, hotel booking sites and online stores sometimes set prices per market, per currency or per local sale. The same flight or room can show a different number depending on the country a site thinks you're in.
It doesn't happen on every site, and no country is reliably cheaper. Taxes, booking fees and exchange rates also change what you end up paying.
How to compare fairly
Note the price you see on your normal connection. Then connect to a SoVPN city in another country, open the same page in a private window and compare the totals on the last step before payment.
Sites also change what they show based on cookies and your account. A private window, or logging out, gives you a cleaner comparison.
- Look up the price with SoVPN off, or on the server you normally use
- Switch to a city in another country
- Reopen the page in a private window and compare totals with fees included
Paying over public Wi-Fi
Shopping on cafe or airport Wi-Fi? Turn SoVPN on first. Your login and payment pages then travel through the encrypted tunnel.
On Plus and Pro, malicious site blocking stops known phishing pages, including fake stores and fake parcel notices sent by text.
Before you pay
Some cards and payment methods only work in certain countries, and some sites require a billing address in the same region. Your card issuer may also stop a payment that comes from a foreign IP.
Read the site's terms. Some services don't allow purchases from another region, and refunds or support may follow the rules of the region where you bought.
