How to choose a server

What the location changes

Once you connect, your traffic travels to a SoVPN server and then on to the website. The farther away that server is, the longer each round trip takes. A fast home line can still feel slow when the server sits on another continent.

The location also decides which country you appear to be in. Sites only see the IP of the SoVPN server, so a server in Tokyo makes you look like a visitor from Japan.

Pick by what you are doing

For everyday browsing, the city closest to you usually responds fastest. If a service only works in one country, connect to a server in that country. Traveling? A server in your home country lets you reach your bank and local apps the way you do at home.

Some services limit VPN connections. The right country improves your chances, but we cannot promise that every service will open.

Dedicated IP and changing servers

Pro includes one dedicated IP, an address nobody else is given. You choose its country when you buy the plan, from 10 options: South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Every plan can use all 62 cities in 44 countries. Change servers in the app as often as you like, with no limit.

Common questions

How many times can I change servers?

As many as you want. Disconnect, pick another city in the app and connect again. It is free and your plan time stays the same.

How do I find the fastest server?

Start with the closest city. Shorter distance usually means lower delay. If that server still feels slow, try another city in the same country or switch the protocol to WireGuard.

Why is one server faster than another?

Distance is the biggest factor. The route your internet provider uses to reach that country and how busy the server is at that hour also matter, so one server can feel different in the morning and at night.

The country I want is not on the list. What now?

Log in and leave a message in the Support tab of the dashboard. You can do this without an active plan. We look at these requests when choosing where to add servers.
