Getting started

What does SoVPN sell?

A no-logs VPN and four kinds of proxies, both paid from one crypto balance. VPN servers are in 62 cities across 44 countries, and every plan includes WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, the kill switch and split tunneling with no data cap. Your ISP can see that you use a VPN, but not the sites behind it.

How do I sign up with just a token?

Open the sign-up page and save the token it shows you. It looks like sox_XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Copy it or download it as a .txt file, tick the box saying you saved it, accept the terms, and the account exists. There are no fields to fill in.

Open this answer
Do I need an email or phone number?

No. SoVPN never asks for an email, phone number, name or password. The account token is the whole account. Top-ups are crypto only, so card details never come up either.

Open this answer
With no email, where do I get account notices?

In your dashboard. There is no email address on the account, so SoVPN can't send mail. Plan dates, balance changes and support replies all show up there.

Open this answer
How many accounts can one internet connection create?

Up to 3 per IP address. The limit stops bots from opening accounts in bulk. If several people share one connection at home or at work and need more, tell us in the Support tab.

I have my token. What comes next?

Top up your balance with crypto, then buy a VPN plan with it. Both happen in the dashboard, in the Top up and VPN plans tabs. The Downloads tab opens once a plan is running. The apps are still being prepared, and the installers will appear in that tab when they are ready.

Is it legal to connect to SoVPN?

In most countries, yes. A few restrict or ban VPNs, so check the local rules before you connect there. Anything illegal is still illegal over a VPN, and our Acceptable Use Policy forbids it.

Pricing, balance and top-ups

What do Plus and Pro add to Basic?

More connected devices and a few extra features. Servers and protocols are the same on all three. Basic connects 6 devices at once. Plus connects 10 and adds ad and tracker blocking, malicious site blocking and Double VPN, which routes you through two servers. Pro connects 12, has everything in Plus, and adds priority support and one dedicated IP in South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France or the Netherlands.

How long can a VPN plan be?

1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 months. You pay for the whole period at once from your balance, and longer periods cost less per month. The biggest discount is Basic for 24 months, 80% off, which works out to about $2.51 a month.

Open this answer
Will SoVPN ever take money from my balance on its own?

No. Only things you buy leave your balance. When a plan's period ends, the VPN stops until you buy another plan.

Open this answer
Which coins can I top up with?

USDT and USDC on several networks, plus BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL and LTC, 12 coin and network options in all. Enter an amount in the Top up tab and pay on the PayGate checkout page. Each top-up is $5 to $5,000. Your balance is kept in US dollars and does not expire.

Open this answer
Is there a way to pay without crypto?

Not at the moment. Crypto is the only way to top up. If you don't hold any, buy USDT on an exchange and send it to the checkout straight from your exchange account.

Open this answer
Do I lose days if I buy a plan early?

No. The new period starts when the current one ends. With 10 days left, for example, buying 1 month gives you those 10 days first and then the full month.

Open this answer
How does the 7-day refund work?

Your first VPN plan is refunded in full to your SoVPN balance if you ask within 7 days of buying it. Send the request from the Support tab. This works once per account. Later purchases and requests after day 7 are not refunded, and balance is not paid out as crypto.

I'm on Basic. How do I get Plus or Pro?

Buy Plus or Pro in the VPN plans tab. If your current plan still has time left, the new one starts the day it ends, so you keep every day you paid for. If you want the switch to happen now, ask in the Support tab and we'll see what's possible.

Open this answer
Does my balance update right after I pay?

Usually within a few minutes, once the blockchain confirms the transfer. A congested network can take longer. Send the exact coin on the exact network shown in the payment window, or we may not be able to match the payment to your account.

Apps and connections

When can I download the SoVPN app?

The apps are still being prepared. When they are ready, the installers will appear in the Downloads tab of your dashboard, which opens after you buy a VPN plan. Until then, a download button there shows a note that the installer isn't ready yet. If you've paid and the tab still looks locked, refresh the page.

Open this answer
Which systems will the apps run on?

Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 and later, iOS 15 and later, Android 8 and later, Android TV, and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora). Routers connect with a WireGuard configuration file.

Open this answer
How many devices can one account connect?

6 at once on Basic, 10 on Plus and 12 on Pro. You can install SoVPN on as many devices as you like. Only devices connected at the same moment count.

Open this answer
Can I connect a 7th device on Basic?

Not at the same time as the other six. The new device connects once another one disconnects. Turn the VPN off on a device you aren't using, or move to Plus (10 devices) or Pro (12).

Open this answer
Can one router cover my whole home?

Yes, if the router has a WireGuard client. Load the SoVPN WireGuard configuration file on it, and every device behind that router goes through the VPN. The router counts as one device. The file will be in the Downloads tab, next to the apps.

Open this answer
Should I use WireGuard, OpenVPN or IKEv2?

Start with WireGuard. It is the default and usually the fastest. When a hotel or office network blocks it, OpenVPN TCP usually gets through. IKEv2 suits phones that hop between Wi-Fi and mobile data, because it holds the connection well.

Privacy and safety features

What does SoVPN log while I'm connected?

Nothing about your activity. We don't record the sites you open, the content of your traffic, DNS lookups, your real IP address or your connection times. The servers are set up so none of this gets written to disk.

Open this answer
What is stored in my SoVPN account?

Only what the account needs to work, and no email, name or phone number. That is a one-way hash of your token and its last 4 characters, a hash of the IP you signed up from (for the 3-account limit), your balance and payment records, and your plan dates. If you use proxies, your proxy username, proxy password and allowed IPs are kept too.

Open this answer
How can you limit devices without tracking them?

With a short-lived marker on the server. Each connected device holds one, saying that a slot is in use. It has no IP address or activity in it, and it disappears when the device disconnects.

Open this answer
Should I leave the kill switch on?

Yes, we suggest keeping it on all the time. If the tunnel drops, it blocks all internet traffic until the VPN is back, so your real IP doesn't show during the gap. You'll find it in the app settings.

Open this answer
Do my DNS lookups stay inside the VPN?

Yes, while you're connected. The app sends every DNS lookup through the tunnel to SoVPN's own DNS servers instead of your ISP's, so your ISP can't see which site names you looked up.

Open this answer
Which ciphers protect my traffic?

AES-256-GCM for OpenVPN and IKEv2, and ChaCha20 for WireGuard. Both are widely used, well-studied ciphers.

Troubleshooting

I can't connect to any server.

First check in the dashboard that your plan still has time left. Then try another server, or switch the protocol from WireGuard to OpenVPN TCP, which works on most networks that block VPNs. If nothing changes, restart the app and then the device.

Pages load slowly with SoVPN on.

A small slowdown is normal, and a nearby server keeps it small. Your data is encrypted and passes through the server first, so distance matters most. WireGuard is usually faster than OpenVPN. On Plus or Pro, keep Double VPN off unless you need it, because two hops take longer than one. Apps that don't need the VPN can skip it with split tunneling.

Open this answer
One site blocks me only when SoVPN is on.

Some sites refuse traffic from VPN servers. Switch to another server in the same country, or use split tunneling to take your browser off the VPN for that site. On Pro, your dedicated IP, which only you use, is also worth a try.

Open this answer
I lost my token. Can my account be saved?

No. There's no email on the account, so we have no way to check who owns it, and no recovery or reset option exists. That's why sign-up asks you to save the token. If it's gone, you'll need to open a new account.

Open this answer
My top-up still isn't there after an hour.

Send us the transaction ID (TXID) in the Support tab and we'll track it down. Top-ups are added after the blockchain confirms the transfer, and some coins take longer than others.

Open this answer
A new device says my device limit is full.

Another device on your account is still connected. Disconnect it and try again. A device that lost power or signal can hold its slot for a few minutes before it's freed.

Open this answer
Where do I ask SoVPN for help?

In the Support tab of your dashboard, after you log in. Replies appear on that same screen. Tell us your device and what you were doing when it went wrong. Pro customers get answered first.

Proxies

Are VPN plans and proxies sold together?

No, they are sold separately. A VPN plan has no proxies in it, and buying proxies doesn't give you VPN access. You pay for both from the same account balance.

Open this answer
How do I pay for a proxy from my balance?

Top up at least $5 in crypto, open the Proxy plans tab, pick a type and amount, and pay from your balance. The types are residential (by the GB), unlimited residential (by the day), static ISP and datacenter (both per IP, per month).

Open this answer
My proxy order shows Activating.

It means we're setting up your proxy. Once the order turns Active, the connection details appear in the Proxy plans tab. If we can't activate an order, the full amount goes back to your balance.

Open this answer
What are the proxy host and ports?

The host is gate.sovpn.store, with port 6100 for HTTP and HTTPS and 6200 for SOCKS5. Authenticate with the proxy username and password from the Proxy plans tab (the username starts with so), or add up to 10 IPv4 addresses to your allowlist and connect from them without a password.

Open this answer
Does a proxy keep running after its period ends?

No. Proxies never renew on their own. Unlimited residential, static ISP and datacenter orders stop when their period ends, and you can add more time from your balance. Residential traffic you bought doesn't expire.

Open this answer
Can I cash out my balance?

No. Your balance stays inside your SoVPN account and can't be sent to a wallet. Use it for VPN plans or proxy orders.
