Double VPN: one more server on the route

Double VPN puts a second SoVPN server between you and the internet. You give up some speed and get an extra hop, which makes sense in a handful of situations and is unnecessary for most daily use.

What each server sees

Your device connects to server one. Server one passes the encrypted traffic to server two, and server two talks to the website. The website only sees server two's IP.

Server one knows where the connection came from, not where it is going. Server two knows the destination, not your IP. Both keep no logs.

It will be slower

Two hops mean more distance, so latency goes up and pages open later. The amount depends on where the two servers are and how far you are from the first one.

A route like Seoul to Tokyo stays fairly quick. A route that crosses an ocean will feel noticeably slower.

When to use it

It fits sensitive tasks on a network you do not trust, or times when you want more distance between your device and the sites you open.

For everyday browsing, video and gaming, one server is enough. It already encrypts your traffic and hides your IP, and it is faster.

How to connect

Double VPN is part of Plus and Pro. The server list has its own tab for it, and each route shows the two servers it uses.

Pick a route and connect as usual. The kill switch and your other settings work the same way as on a single server.

  • Open the server list in the SoVPN app
  • Switch to the Double VPN tab
  • Pick a route and tap Connect

Common questions

Can I use Double VPN on Basic?

No. It is included with Plus and Pro.

Does Double VPN make me anonymous?

No. It adds a server to the route, but a site you log in to still knows it is your account.

Why is Double VPN slower?

Your traffic crosses two servers. Choose a route closer to you, or go back to a single server when you need speed.
