Your home IP stays private
In some games and voice chat apps, other people can see or find out your IP address. With SoVPN on, the address they get points to our server, not to your house.
On a dorm or cafe network, traffic between your device and the server is encrypted, so other people on that network can't read what your game sends.
Distance decides ping
Every VPN adds a hop. To keep it short, pick a SoVPN city close to you, or close to the game server you play on.
Our route is sometimes more stable than your provider's, and sometimes a few milliseconds slower. Try two or three nearby cities and read the ping in the game itself. That number is the one that counts.
- Set the protocol to WireGuard under Settings > Connection > Protocol
- Join a city in your own country or the next country over
- Keep an eye on in-game ping and change cities when it rises
Consoles and game rules
Consoles rarely support VPN apps. Set up WireGuard on your router, and the console uses SoVPN without any app.
Some games ban VPNs or playing through another region. Read the game's terms before you log in from a foreign server, so your account doesn't get flagged.
Keep the game outside the VPN
You might only want your browser or voice chat protected. With split tunneling, the game uses your normal connection, and large patches download outside the tunnel too.
Turn it on under Settings > Split tunneling. It's included in Basic, Plus and Pro.
